Obsidian

Obsidian

Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. It is produced when felsic lava cools rapidly with minimal crystal growth. Obsidian is hard, brittle, and amorphous, so it has very sharp edges when broken. Due to this property, ancient cultures used it extensively to produce cutting and piercing tools, such as arrowheads, knives, and scrapers. In metaphysical circles, obsidian is often considered a stone of protection and healing.
